Abies

Monday November 9, 2015

Morris Arboretum’s Abies collection was officially recognized in 2002. The Arboretum’s goal for its fir collection is to display a diversity of fir species and to evaluate them for their adaptability to the Mid-Atlantic region. This collection serves as a teaching, display, and research resource for the public and professional visitors. It demonstrates the diversity of species and non-cultivated varieties from North America, Europe, Asia Minor, and Asia, which can be grown in the Mid-Atlantic region. Several historic fir specimens are among the largest of their kind in eastern North America. The Arboretum continues to add to their collection through plant exploration, especially in Korea and China, and through plant exchanges.
